John Obi Mikel – Comparing Him With Lionel Messi

John Obi Mikel of Nigeria and Lionel Messi of Argentina were both at the world youth championship (FIFA U-20) in Netherlands in 2005, where they both shone like a Million Stars, to the delight of soccer fans the world over.

Both players played as creative/attacking midfielders for their countries at the youth championship. Argentina eventually defeated Nigeria by 2-1 at the final to win the trophy; and Lionel Messi emerged the world’s best player, while John Obi Mikel was voted second best player at the U-20 level.

Five years after, the gulf between the two players has widened so much that one begins to wonder what has happened. The Argentine went to FC Barcelona thereafter and developed his skills further to the point of wining several domestic titles, 2 champions’ league titles, 1 club world cup, 1 Olympics gold medal, European footballer of the year, world footballer of the year, etc.

But the Nigerian made the mistake of his career by allowing his father to influence him in choosing to go to Chelsea FC of England. The only achievement he can boast of till date include a few FA cups, Carling cups and community shield cup. He just won his first league title with Chelsea this year.

What went wrong?

Lionel Messi carefully chose a club side that allowed him to develop further, and brought out the best in him. John Obi Mikel, on the other hand refused a bid from Manchester United that would have enabled him maintain his position as an attacking midfielder and develop his skills further. Instead, he chose to go to Chelsea FC because of the money involved. On getting to Chelsea, Coach Jose Maurinho turned him into a defensive midfielder, and his skills nosedived. During the period he has stayed in Chelsea, Man U has won 3 league titles, 1 club world cup, 1 champions’ league title, etc. Today, he regrets his decision: he would have won 3 league titles, 1 champions’ league, 1 club world cup, several FA cups and Carling cups by now with Man U. He would have also had the opportunity to shine better than he is doing right now and perhaps be close to Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi in terms of skill. But today, he is not in the top 50 players’ list. What an Irony!

In choosing a career, one should not consider only the monetary aspect; one should think of one’s opportunity to develop further, and when the place you intend to develop your career does not guarantee you that chance, you should look elsewhere.

Besides, you should not allow anybody to influence you when it comes to choosing your career. You know what you want; why don’t you go for that which would give you satisfaction? If you make any mistakes from the onset, you may end up regretting for life.

Who Will Be in the Championship Team of the Season 2014-15?

The PFA Player of the Year Awards are almost upon us. In a season that has seen the always competitive Championship at its most unpredictable, predicting its Team of the Season is far from straightforward; nevertheless, having assessed the contenders, I shall attempt to pick out and justify a worthy eleven.

Goalkeeper: Artur Boruc (Bournemouth)

The ‘holy goalie’ will be praying his excellent form continues, as the Cherries close in on a first ever promotion to the top flight. The former Celtic custodian has had a very consistent season, marginally edging out the miserly Keiren Westwood (Sheffield Wednesday) and Middlesbrough’s impressive collection of solid stoppers.

Right back: Simon Francis (Bournemouth)

We stay on the South Coast for our right-back, with Simon Francis an integral part of Bournemouth’s play – both defensively and offensively. His link-up with winger Matt Ritchie has caused no end of trouble for opposing teams all season long. Losing out to Francis for the position is Steven Whittaker (Norwich City) who, similarly, offers as much going forward as in defence.

Centre backs: Tom Lees (Sheffield Wednesday) and Tommy Elphick (Bournemouth)

Two Toms at the back, with Lees’ defensive ability appreciated by Wednesdayites certainly ready to overlook his Leeds past. The much-improved Elphick pips club colleague and captain Steve Cook, while there’s an honourable mention for Ben Gibson, youngest member of Middlesbrough’s stingy backline.

Left back: George Friend (Middlesbrough)

Mirroring Francis on the right, Friend’s forward forays have been a crucial element in Middlesbrough’s play this year. At the same time, his defensive work has been just as one would expect from the meanest defence in the league. Friend pinches the slot just ahead of Bournemouth’s Charlie Daniels.

Right midfield/wing: Matt Ritchie (Bournemouth)

Our fourth Cherry is the linking livewire Ritchie, who tops the table for goal assists this season and has hit double figures for his own goal tally to boot. His partnership with Francis has been a feature of Bournemouth’s best work all season. Team-mate Marc Pugh is the player to miss out in favour of the recent Scottish cap.

Centre midfield: Will Hughes (Derby) and Grant Leadbitter (Middlesbrough)

The almost impossible task of selecting only two players from a plethora of worthy contenders sees Derby’s precocious talent Hughes link up with the ever-dependable Leadbitter from Boro. Hughes, whose maturity in possession and eye for a pass belie his tender years, will surely not remain a Championship player for long, irrespective of his team’s ultimate destiny this season. He grabs the creative central position ahead of the creative Alan Judge, who has enjoyed an excellent season at Brentford. The grafting and effective Leadbitter has kept Boro ticking, and provides the perfect complement to Hughes, marginally edging out Harry Arter (Bournemouth) and Norwich’s long-shot specialist Bradley Johnson. An honourable mention is reserved for the much-improved Toumani Diagouraga, Judge’s defensive midfield team-mate for the Bees.

Left mid-field/wing/attack: Patrick Bamford (Middlesbrough)

Almost the go-to man for Middlesbrough this season in attack, Bamford’s goals have been frequent and priceless, with the occasionally sensational strike thrown in. Middlesbrough will be hoping to keep hold of the Chelsea loanee, but will probably need to be playing Premier League football next season in order to do so.

Strikers: Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) and Troy Deeney (Watford)

Fifth of a quintet of Cherries, Wilson has proved a more than adequate replacement for last season’s top scorer, Lewis Grabban. Despite his searing pace and intelligent link-up play, his hatful of goals still falls some way short of league top scorer Daryl Murphy, Ipswich’s target man, who may consider himself somewhat unfortunate to miss out on a place in the eleven. The same could be said of the Derby talisman Chris Martin, for whom injury at a crucial time limited his impact on the goalscoring charts, as well as his team’s fortunes. Nevertheless, the final place in the team is awarded to the slightly more prolific of Watford’s unstoppable front line: Troy Deeney. Fast becoming a complete centre-forward, Deeney’s sharpness, aerial strength and finishing ability see him sneak in ahead of Murphy, Martin, and his almost equally prolific Hornet team-mate, Odion Ighalo.

To recap, then, my team is:

Boruc (Bournemouth), Francis (Bournemouth), Lees (Sheffield Wednesday), Elphick (Bournemouth), Friend (Middlesbrough), Ritchie (Bournemouth), Hughes (Derby County), Leadbitter (Middlesbrough), Bamford (Middlesbrough), Wilson (Bournemouth), Deeney (Watford)

Look out for the awards ceremony on 24 April to see how many of my picks made the XI!

How about you? Who would you choose? Leave a comment below!

Barcelona Soccer Team Facts

Barcelona is a city long in love with sports, especially the Barcelona Soccer Team.

In addition to hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona hosted parts of the 1982 Football World Cup and has hosted the X FINA World Championship and Eurobasket. The city has two UEFA 5-star rated football stadiums: FC Barcelona’s Nou Camp and the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

FC Barcelona’s soccer team is almost a way of life in Barcelona. The rivalry with Madrid rises almost to the point where Barcelona can be considered the Catalonia national team. FC Barca was founded on 29 November 1899 by Joan Gamper, who created the team colors of blue and claret from the Swiss canton in which he lived. Barcelona lost its first ever match with some English expatriates 0-1, but within ten years began a string of Catalan and Spanish championships lasting decades. FC Barcelona went though tough times in the rise to the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath, but was able to recover and by the mid 1940s resumed its championship ways.

FC Barcelona is a sports club containing basketball, handball, hockey, ice-hockey, figure skating, indoor football, rugby, baseball, volleyball and women’s football, but the jewel in the crown has always been association football, or the Barcelona Soccer Team. The Barcelona team has qualified every year for the European competition since it was founded in 1955.

The club motto is «Més que un club» and they refer to their stadium as «Camp Nou.» In English these are «More than a club» and «Our Ground.» Despite a slump at the turn of the century, FC Barcelona has assembled a talented team and once again resumed winning ways. The club currently has a five-year deal with UNICEF, wearing the emblem on their jerseys and paying $1.9 million a year for the privilege.

Among the many claims to fame of the Barca team are that it has more victories than any other Association Football team in the world. They also have more wins in the Copa del Rey, the Spanish tournament, than any other team with 24 victories. There are 18 La Liga Championships, 7 Supercopa de Espana, 2 EUFA Champions League, 4 EUFA Winner’s Cups, 3 Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, 1 Inter-City Fairs Cup Trophy Play-off, 2 European Super Cups, 2 Copa Latina, 4 Copa de Oro Argentina, 22 Catalan Championships, 2 Copa Martina Rossi, 4 Coupe de Pyrenees, 1 Mediterranean League, 2 Copa de Ligua, 1 Copa Barcelona, 1 Lligua Catalana, 5 Copa Catalana and one Little World Cup. It is little wonder Barcelona has embraced the Barcelona Soccer Team and reveres it as a symbol of Catalonia.

UEFA Champions League – Round of Sixteen Preview

The Champions League is back after a two month absence. It is only the round of sixteen, yet some of the match ups which will be on show are absolutely mouthwatering. Giants of the game will clash and some big names will be eliminated. The competition will be intense and nothing can be taken for granted. Here are some of the key matches I’m looking forward to and what I think might happen:

Inter Milan V Manchester United – San Siro, Milan

Two giants of European football, two teams in wonderful form at the moment. In a match worthy of the final it is very unfortunate that these teams had to meet now and it will be sad to see one of them go.

Both teams have incredible managers and have dominated their domestic leagues to the extent that they’ve all but won them with three months still to go. They have class all over the park, in particular, both teams have formidable attacking weapons with Ronaldo, Rooney, Adriano and Ibrahimovic just to name a few.

All things being the same it is difficult to separate these teams, but unfortunately things aren’t quite equal if you compare the defences. Vidic is suspended for the match because of his red card in the Club World Cup final. Evans got injured recently and Gary Neville is still out. John O’Shea is in doubt as well. To go to the San Siro is difficult at the best of times, but with Rio Ferdinand having to play with a makeshift centre back in central defence, one can only think Inter has the edge. I am going to be bold and say that «The Special One» and Inter will win by a narrow margin in the first leg. Man Utd will be much stronger in the second leg.

Arsenal V Roma – Emirates, London

Who would want to be an Arsenal fan this season? Who would want to be a Roma fan for that matter? Both teams have had bad seasons by their standards but both are starting to find some sort of form, although not nearly to either team’s potential.

This is a key clash for both teams to savour something from their disappointing seasons. Both teams, being so inconsistent, it is difficult to predict who will come out on top. Arsenal have been playing better recently, but they haven’t been able to find the killer blow, so this may well be their day. With Roma looking to defend away from home, this game could be a draw or if Arsenal can finally finish their chances, they could come away with a desperately needed win. Arsenal will need it because it will be very difficult for them to win in Rome in the second leg.

Real Madrid V Liverpool – Bernabeu, Madrid

When the draw was first announced, I was certain Liverpool would win, but the draw was announced weeks ago. There have been many changes since, and Real Madrid seem to be going from strength to strength whereas Liverpool haven’t been doing as well as their fans would like.

Since Juande Ramos has taken over and bought Lasanna Diarra, Real Madrid’s defensive record has been exceptional. It is little wonder that they’ve had such an impressive winning streak since the pair (Ramos and Diarra) have arrived. Diarra could finally be the long term replacement for Makelele that Real have craved for so many years. In contrast, Liverpool, have gone from comfortably leading the English Premier League to being seven points behind bitter rivals Manchester United. They will again be without inspirational captain Steven Gerrard, so taking everything into consideration I think Liverpool will struggle away from home. Real Madrid should win this one. Liverpool will be better in the second leg.

History of Hockey: An Ancient Sport That Has Triumphed Through Years of Fine Tuning

The history of hockey dates back to the times of early civilizations. Studies have found hints of this sport’s origins as much as four thousand years ago. This sport common referred to as «ball and stick» has been played in the ancient civilizations of Rome, Egypt, and Scotland under various names. The general play of the game was similar between each civilization. Irish people called the game «Hockie.» This term has made its way into present day and is now the common name for this historical game. Back in these times it was not played on ice but rather a field. Modern day hockey rules and game play originated in Canada with the help of JG Creighton. His particular game play rules were used in the first ice hockey game which was played in 1875. Two stones frozen into each end of the ice were used in the early days of hockey as goals. In 1879, the official rules were drafted for the game. It was not until 1893 that hockey became a known and played sport in the United States. In the 1900’s the sport grew in popularity throughout Europe.

Most extensive hockey playing resided in Canada and other countries until the early 1900’s. Montreal, Canada is the true parent of modern day ice hockey. This is where the first organized play began in the history of hockey. The first official season of the NHL took place between 1917 and 1918 in Montreal. Only five teams were part of the league in the beginning. One had to quit due to their ice rink getting burned down. Obstacles were many in the early development phase of the NHL and slowed down the advancement of this sport so many people love today. The O’Brien trophy was the original league championship trophy awarded for the championship game. As the games popularity increased so did the number of teams in the league.

Professional hockey originated in the early twentieth century. The Western Pennsylvania Hockey League began paying players openly for the sport. This particular league joined with Michigan and Ontario teams to form the first professional international league in the year of 1904. Many players were openly paid by this league which later disbanded in 1907. By this time, many major hockey leagues were running in Canada. The National Hockey Association or NHA was formed in the year of 1910 in Montreal, Canada and was followed by a 1917 re-organization that created the National Hockey League (NHL). Expansion of the league into the United States began in 1924. Many rules were instilled throughout this time including twenty minute periods and various penalties.

Presently, professional hockey is played in various countries around the world. It is the defining sport of Canada and a renowned game in the United States and other countries. Fans love the ruggedness of the game. They gather in the stands every season to watch their favorite team battle for the ultimate win and the ever so famous Stanley Cup. This championship trophy has been a symbol of hard work and perseverance for years and is the desired end result of every team.

Summer Quotes For the Softball Coach

With summer comes softball and it is time to find the type of summer quotes that inspire your softball team as they perspire towards their league championship. Great athletic quotes from the giants of other sports lend themselves well to the sport of softball.

When it comes to defining champions, let us start with these memorable quotes:

«I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.» – Mia Hamm, Women’s Soccer Olympic Gold Medal team

And while the nobility of teamwork is critical, there comes a day when you have to pick your team up after a particularly crushing lost. That is where this quote by Vince Lombardi comes into play:

The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory. That’s the essence of it.

As one of the most successful coaches in history, he was a man who understood what really makes champion athletes and championship teams.

Interestingly enough, Ralph Waldo Emerson, probably the person least likely to have concerned himself with summer athletics has a quote that cuts to the quick of many a softball player’s experience:

«Do what we can, summer will have its flies.» Ralph Waldo Emerson

This summer quote rings so true because a spring full of batting cage time and practice still cannot overcome the occasional pop-fly ball. Although in this instance his more literal meaning, that the summer, regardless how beautiful comes with a more pestering side effect instead of the actual fly balls of the summer softball league.

Likewise, William Blake is an English poet who never saw a baseball field, let alone a softball diamond. In spite of this, his general observations regarding summer are worth sharing with any athletic team.

«How sweet I roamed from field to field, and tasted all the summer’s pride.»

Because it is the pride of summer that all athletes chase, seeking that glory, that moment in the sun that makes one truly feel a champion.

Finally, as we move into the summer sports season, never forgot Billy Jean King’s athletic quote about champions:

«A champion is afraid of losing. Everyone else is afraid of winning.»

Never fear winning, it is what summer is all about. So don your softball shorts, throw your cleats over your shoulder and head out for a summer of grass, sun and the thrill of victory.

UEFA Champions League – All the Action From This Week’s Champions League Fixtures

UEFA Champions League action on Tuesday saw some of Europe’s most famous clubs progress into the knock-out stages of the competition, which is begin in February next year.

It was week 5 of the Group Stages and over in Spain, it has to be said that Manchester United and Villarreal, even though they were two of the teams to progress, produced a pretty boring and uneventful goalless draw. The only good moments came in the first half when a shot by the Portuguese striker Ronaldo produced a great save from Diego Lopez, the Villareal goalkeeper. Lopez deflected the ball onto the bar. Later the Utd’s and England star forward Wayne Rooney produced a cross that was deflected towards the danger area but it came to nothing as the Villareal player Capdevila managed to clear the ball to safety.

The same player, Capdevilla, was also involved in the evening’s most unsavory incident. With just 6 minutes of the game remaining he lunged and produced a rather ugly tackle on another of Man Utd’s star players, Ronaldo. Cadevilla was, quite rightly, given a red card by the referee and he was off to take an early shower.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for Glasgow Celtic and Gordon Strachan. Celtic, in the same Group E as Manchester Utd, must have thought they could have gone to Aalborg and got a good result. A win was the only chance Celtic had of staying alive in the competition. However, there will be no more European nights at Celtic’s Park Head stadium this season. There will not even be the consolation of playing in Europe’s second string competition, the UEFA Cup. Celtic will finish last in Group E thanks to a 2 – 1 defeat against the hugely unfancied AaB Aalborg. Not too many people would have put too much money on Celtic finishing last in this group when the draw was first made way back in the summer.

However, the game did start well for Celtic, as they led 1 – 0. But tragedy struck with just minutes remaining as the Celtic player Gary Caldwell could only turn the ball into his own net after a goal mouth scramble. Tears of sadness in the east end of Glasgow, whilst no doubt tears of joy in the city’s west end!

Over to Group F where Lyon, the perennial leaders of their domestic French league, beat the Italians of Fiorentina. Lyon therefore also progress to the last 16 of the competition. Not surprisingly, Lyon will be joined by Bayern Munich in the final stages after they overcame the Romanians of Steau Bucharest at the Allianz Arena. All the big teams are certainly lining line for battle when the Champions League reaches the sudden death stages.

The qualifaction situation is no different in Group G as both Arsenal, losing finalists in 2006 to Barcelona in Paris, and FC Porto, winners in 2004 when their manager was Jose Mourinho before he arrived in the west end of London to manage Chelsea, both made in through to the last 16 with wins over Dynamo Kiev and Fenerbache respectively.

However Arsenal did leave it a little late against Kiev with the winner coming only 3 minutes from the end of the game, scored by Bendtner. That must have come as a huge relief to Arsene Wenger and all connected with Arsenal. Since their excellent win in the Premier League against Man Utd as few weeks ago, which at the time silenced a few critics, it has been nothing but bad news and bad press for Arsenal with more defeats and the William Gallas affair, which resulted in being striped of the captaincy.

Finally on Tuesday evening, two more of Europe’s «Big Guns» made it safely through with the final week of the Group Stages to spare. Both Real Madrid, 9 times winners, and Juventus of Italy confirmed their places in the knock-out stages after Real beat BATE Borisov and Juventus drew 0 – 0 away to Zenit St Petersburg, the current UEFA Cup holders. Unfortunately, the result knocked Zenit out and it now look likely that they will be able to defend the crown they won last season in Manchester against Glasgow Rangers. Although that probably will not be too much of a consolation to them.

Champions League 2nd Leg Tuesday Review

AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2

It was a master class by the young men from London as they totally dominated the game from the 20th minute onward and should have won by a larger margin if they had better finishers in their rank.

AC Milan looked like the aging and fading squad that they obviously are and it would be a good idea for them to freshen up their squad at the end of the season.

Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Kaka Kaladze, Gennaro Gatusso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Massimo Ambrosini, Dario Simic, Filippo Inzaghi, Dida, Serginho, and Cristian Brocchi along with manager Carlo Ancelotti were all part of the side that won the champions league way back in 2002 and that is far too many personnel to still be a big part of a club.

Last night Gennaro Gatusso and especially Andrea Pirlo were awful and way off the pace as Cesc Fabregas just completely dominated the midfield. Paolo Maldini at 39 had a fantastic game and would have expected more from his team mates as they let him down badly.

Emmanuel Adebayor was excellent as he single-handedly tormented Kaladze, Nesta and Oddo whilst Aliaksandr Hleb had a field day tormenting the Milan midfield and defence. He was very unlucky to get a yellow card for diving because he was caught by Nesta in the 1st half just at the very edge of the penalty box.

The only times Milan looked dangerous were from corner kicks and the couple of occasions that Kaka broke free and ran at Arsenal. Apart from that they posed no threat whatsoever with Inzaghi very isolated, Pato, extremely disappointing and substitute, Alberto Gilardino, not contributing a jot.

The goals when they came were very timely as Fabregas’ speculative shot from 25 yards out caught Milan goalkeeper Zeljko kalac napping for the opener and substitute Theo Walcott using his pace to outwit the poor kaladze and then setting up a very easy chance for Adebayor to grab a goal his performance deserved.

Arsenal can use this result as a springboard for possible success in the league and champions league whilst Milan can either use this loss as a motivation for the rest of their campaign in serieA or a disappointment that they cannot recover from.

Manchester United 1 Lyon 0

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal proved to be the decider in this game when he netted from a cross by Wes Brown in the dying minutes of the 1st half for his 30th goal in his last 30 games.

Sevilla 3 Fenerbahce 2 (Fenerbahce win 4-2 on penalties)

Sevilla went 2-0 up in the 1st 9 minutes of the game with goals from captain Danny Alves from a freekick and then a 30-yard shot from Saydoo Keita. Both goals were big howlers from goalkeeper Volkan Damirel, who then redeemed himself in the penalty shootout by saving 3 penalties from Alves, Enzo Maresca and Escude.

Fenerbahce pulled a goal back through Deivid before Freddy Kanoute made it 3-1.

Sevilla manager then made an almighty error that caused them the tie by taking off leading goalscorer, Luis fabiano to bring on Renato in the second half.

Deivid scored again to take the tie to extra-time and then penalties with Volkan going from zero to hero.

Barcelona 1 Celtic 0

An early goal by Xavi settled this tie once and for all with the downside being a muscular injury to Leo Messi that left him in tears.

UEFA Champions League Draw – Arsenal vs AS Roma

So, the Champions League draw have been made, and I have to admit one of the most anticipated matches is Inter vs Man Utd. Italian champions vs English champions. I’m an Arsenal fan, so I’m rather happy about it. Man Utd think they are the best, well eat this! Let’s see how you get past Inter.

But there is another fixture I’m very much looking forward to. Roma vs Arsenal. Why? Both are my favourite teams, and they are 2 very similar clubs. Mirror image in other words.

Firstly, both clubs are having some financial problem. Which is the reason why both clubs doesn’t spend big. Look at the players Arsenal and Roma have signed in the past few seasons: While big stars like Cristian Chivu left, instead of getting a big money replacement Luciano Spalleti got Juan for a mere 6.3 million euros. When the legend of Arsenal, Thierry Henry left, many people was thinking whether his replacement could lived up to expectations. Arsene Wenger chose to fork out only 8 million to sign Eduardo Da Silva, and although he’s injured at the moment, his future looks bright.

Secondly, both clubs have been praised for their brilliant attacking football. Arsenal was believed to have played the best football ever seen in England during their Invincibles’ season (2003/04), and up till today they do just that. Roma have been praised by pundits for playing exciting, attacking football since Luciano Spalleti took over and deployed the 4-5-1 formation. Normally in football it’s the beauty vs the beast, but I believe in this match, both clubs will be known as the beauties and will be fighting their asses off.

Lastly, both clubs have their own star talisman of the team. Francesco Totti have always been associated with AS Roma, and up till today the fans still worship him. Francesc Fabregas, although only 21 years of age, has been one of the most popular players in Arsenal at the moment, and seeing how similar both players’ style of play are, it’s certainly a battle of the golden boys. However years ago this could be even more intense, when Thierry Henry was still at Arsenal. I’m sure about 4 years ago everybody wanted to see the 2 best strikers at their peak facing each other on the football field. What a match it would be.

Chelsea Will Beat Barcelona – Champions League Semi Final 2009

The much awaited tussle between Chelsea and Barcelona football clubs is here and the first leg of the two leg semifinal will commence in the evening in Barcelona. It is deemed as the match up of the season with teams with different abilities trying to out do each other. In many ways it will be a contest between the fast paced physical approach of English premier league and technically superior one touch football of Barcelona.

The prediction is hard to make and even both coaches are staying away from making any sort of announcements before the match.

I guess I need to put my head on block and I’m going with Chelsea Football Club. I believe the Barcelona is about to catch a slap. They will be beaten over both legs.

Chelsea unlike Bayern Munich in the previous round have a much stable and permanent defense and it will be mighty hard for the Barcelona’s forward to run them home and dry by beating the off side trap. Henry, Eto and Messi are good in La Liga this season but they haven’t come across the physical approach of Chelsea. Bayern had three new defenders in last four and probably playing for the first time together at Nou Camp.

Secondly most of Barcelona creativity is focused on Xavi and Inniesta, and the duo will face a stiff challenge from Essien and Ballack, both physically demanding players especially upper body strength which the Barcelona players lack.

The dual of the match could be either Essien and Xavi or Malouda vs Dani Alves. It may seem strange but most of Messi industriousness depends upon Alves as it provides Messi to go in on his left foot. Malouda drives will not only keep Alves in his own half but his better adaptability to defensive work will also make it easy for Boswinga to defend against Messi. Henry and Eto are free running players and they won’t get any space today so won’t be a big surprise if one of them get substituted around 75 minutes.

Leave all the rest to Drogba has Barcelona don’t have something called defense in football and with fast paced closing they will bound to make errors. Barcelona is not getting anything out of its home match.

Leave the rest for next week.
